Surface Preparation
The surface must be properly prepared to ensure maximum adhesion and long-term performance of Ressi TA Re Bond 245. The existing tiled
surface should be sound, firmly bonded, and free from any loose or hollow areas. All damaged or unstable tiles must be removed and
levelled flat with the existing surface using an appropriate repairing material from Ressichem, such as its Non-Shrink Cementitious
Grout, Levelling Screed, or Compound. The entire surface should then be thoroughly cleaned using a suitable detergent or degreaser to
eliminate dirt, oil, grease, wax, soap residues, or any contaminants that may impair bonding. After cleaning, rinse with clean water
and allow the surface to dry completely. For glazed or polished tiles, mechanical abrasion using a grinder or abrasive pad is
recommended to roughen the surface and create a better mechanical key for adhesion. On dense or non-porous substrates, a compatible
Ressichem primer or bonding agent should be applied to enhance adhesion and allowed to dry before proceeding. Ensure the substrate is
dry and free from any rising damp or continuous moisture. Application should be carried out at ambient temperatures between 5°C and
35°C, avoiding direct sunlight or strong winds that could cause premature drying and reduce open time.
Product Preparation
Ressi TA Re Bond 245 is a pre-mixed, polymer-modified, cement-based adhesive supplied in powder form and requires only the addition of
clean water for preparation. It is essential that the water quantity be accurately measured in accordance with the guidelines provided
in the technical data table. The pre-measured clean, potable water should be placed into a suitable mixing container, and the powder
should be gradually added into the water—not vice versa—to prevent the formation of lumps and to ensure a uniform, consistent mix. Mixing
should be carried out using a mechanical paddle mixer or mortar mixer until a smooth, homogeneous, and lump-free paste is achieved.
Manual mixing may be performed only for smaller applications, where the quantity of material required is limited. Allow the mixed
material to rest for 2–3 minutes, then remix briefly before application. Always ensure the mixing container is clean, uncontaminated,
and non-corrosive. For the precise water-to-powder ratio, refer to the Technical Data section of this datasheet.
Application
Before application, ensure that the substrate has been properly prepared in accordance with the surface preparation guidelines.
The adhesive should be applied within its workable time after mixing. Using the flat edge of a trowel, first spread a thin layer of
Ressi TA Re Bond 245 onto the substrate, pressing firmly to achieve full contact and proper wetting of the surface. Immediately
thereafter, comb the adhesive with the notched edge of the trowel to achieve the desired thickness and uniform ridge pattern, depending
on the size and type of tiles being installed. Only apply as much adhesive as can be covered with tiles within the product’s open time.
Place the tiles firmly into position with a slight twisting or sliding motion to ensure full coverage on the tile back and good contact
with the adhesive bed. Occasionally lift a tile to check for adequate coverage 100% mortar coverage is expected for tile on tile
applications. Avoid the formation of air pockets beneath the tiles. Do not pre-wet tiles before installation. Ensure that all alignment
adjustments are made within the open time of the adhesive. Excess adhesive should be cleaned from tile surfaces and joints before it
hardens. Once the adhesive has set, disturbed tiles should not be adjusted. For large-format or heavy tiles, or when installing over
uneven surfaces, back-buttering of the tile is recommended to achieve full adhesion and eliminate voids. Expansion and movement joints
should be provided in accordance with standard tiling practices and architectural specifications.
