FREEZE THAW DAMAGE

Freeze Thaw Damage

Recommended Solution: Silblock, Silmix & Ressi SBR 5850.

Freeze-thaw damage can occur when concrete is saturated and exposed to temperature cycles that fluctuate around the freezing point of the pore solution.

Hardened concrete or mortar may be damaged by freeze/thaw cycles typical of northern climates. Damage is often observed minimizing the effects of freeze-thaw damage includes the use of Silblock. Concrete and mortar are susceptible to damage by many cycles of freezing and thawing. The water inside the pores of the concrete expands upon freezing, and internal stress is developed that can lead to cracking.

Silblock is a water-repellant for brick, stucco, clay tile and concrete that reduces dusting, pitting, rutting of concrete, and freeze-thaw damage.

Silmix is a plaster and mortar additive that makes the mortar/plaster water-repellent hence minimizing the effects of freeze thaw cycles. It is recommended to use Silmix with Ressi SBR 5850 as well. It is recommended to use 1 Ltr of Silmix along with 1 Ltr of Ressi SBR 5850 with every 50 KG Bag of cement. This treatment will ensure that the issue of Freeze-thaw is minimized, and the life of the mortar / Plaster is enhanced for many years to come.
