Textured Concrete Detailed Description

Stamped concrete, often called textured or imprinted concrete, replicates stones, such as slate and flagstone, tile, brick and even wood. The wide variety of pattern and color choices make it popular for beautifying patios, pool decks, driveways and more.

Additionally, it is an affordable paving option that requires less maintenance than other materials. It is also unique and can be customized, it is also practical, solid, and robust. Ressichem has a variety of products and patterns that can be used to successfully execute Stamped concrete works.

Step 1: Surface preparation.

Surface preparation includes all the preparation which is required to lay the concrete floor prior to the pouring of the concrete slab. As per the requirement of the slab, the surface preparation may vary. The sub-base for the concrete should be well drained and have adequate and uniform load bearing characteristics. To reduce the likelihood of cracking, the sub-base must be graded to ensure an even thickness of concrete. At the time of concrete placement, the sub-base must be moist but have no standing water and should be well consolidated. If necessary, the sub-base should be dampened with water in advance of concreting, to avoid uneven suction and premature drying out of the underside of the slab.

Step 2: Concrete placing & levelling.

Once the concrete is placed It needs to be levelled and smoothened using a steel trowel, bull float or any other appropriate means of levelling the floor.

Step 3: Application & incorporation  of Color Hardener.

Ressi Hardener (Pigmented Floor Hardener) is a ready to use, streak free, dry shake, colored or concrete hardener for use on interior and exterior concrete flatwork. Ressi Hardener should be applied to the surface of the freshly placed concrete once any bleed water has disappeared and the floating process does not disrupt the level of the slab. Premature application may affect durability and require a higher dosage rate. Ressi Hardener (Pigmented Floor Hardener) must never be used to dry excess bleed water. Using the dry shake method, the material should be broadcast uniformly across the surface, normally in two applications. Two thirds of the material should be used in the first pass, with the final third being applied in the same manner but at 90 degrees to the first. Volume yield will depend on the color choice and the final use of the slab. Lighter colors will require more material to be used and darker colors, less. It is recommended that the total area being completed in each pour is calculated, and the correct number of materials placed equally around the slab in advance of application.

Step 4: Finishing &  smoothening the surface.

Once Ressi Hardener (Cementitious color hardener) has been applied, it is essential to level and smoothen out the surface again and make sure that Ressi Hardener (Color Cementitious hardener) has been properly impregnated in the concrete. The concrete surface once again needs to be levelled and smoothened using a steel trowel, bull float or any other appropriate means of levelling the floor.

Step 5: Application of powder release agent (Ressi Powder Release)

Ressi Powder Release is ready to use, streak free and powder formulated to be easily applied onto the surface of colored or plain concrete. Ressi Powder Release is broadcast over the surface of freshly placed colored-concrete floors, before imprinting with stamps or other texturing tools or rollers. It forms a bond-breaking barrier that helps prevent the tools from sticking to the fresh concrete and damaging its fragile surface. During the process, a portion of the colored antiquing release becomes embedded in the surface, where it is trapped by the hardening concrete. When the surface is subsequently washed and sealed, an attractive, variegated, mottled, and antiqued appearance is obtained, with colors ranging from that of the underlying concrete to that of the antiquing release, with mixtures of the two most likely. Immediately prior to imprinting. Ressi Powder Release should be hand-broadcast evenly across the surface by the dry shake method, normally in one broadcasting operation (shake).

Step 6: Imprinting and finishing

Once the application of Ressi Powder Release agent has been done and the stamps have been properly placed over the concrete, they should be imprinted using the appropriate tools and with proper interlocking of the stamps and proper imprinting techniques. Please refer to the video of stamped concrete for better guidance in this regard.

Step 7: Washing of surface

After the concrete has achieved an initial set, as soon as the next day in hot climates and as many as 10 days in cold climates, the release agent may be removed with pressure rinsing with a high-power pressure rinse and cleaner. Ressi Powder Release should not be used as the primary coloring method. It should only be used as a secondary color to antique the color surface hardener.

Step 8: Application of protective sealer

There are a variety of protective, color enhancing and glossy sealers which can be applied over the decorative concrete floors. Ressichem has a variety of sealers that can be used to seal the surface of the stamped concrete:

1.Stone Guard (Stain resistant sealer)
2.Ressi Chrome Seal (Slight gloss enhancing sealer)
3.Silblock (Water repellent sealer)

These are just a few options of sealers that can be applied over stamped concrete. The selection of the sealer can be done as per requirement. Please consult Ressichem representative for further guidance.
