Waterproofing Systems for Basements and Underground Tanks
Once the excavation of the basement is done, it is extremely essential to constantly dewater the area so that it remains dry for the further stone soiling works. Once the stone soiling works have been done and compacted properly. Lean concrete is laid over the surface.
Over the lean concrete surface, It is recommended to apply a primer coat of Ressicoat X-491. A Primer coat includes adding an additional 3 to 4 liters of water in a 16 KG kit and 4 to 5 Liters of water in a 20 KG Kit and lavishly spreading it over the lean concrete surface so that the material is penetrated within. Once the primer is done, Apply 2 neat coats of Ressicoat X-491 in opposite directions (First coat from left to right and second coat from top to bottom).
Once the coating of Ressicoat X-491 has dried out, it is to be protected using a thin layer screed over it. The steel reinforcement should be done over the screed.
It is recommended to pour the concrete raft and retaining in one go to avoid any joints in between. If this cannot be done, a slurry consisting of one part cement and one part Ressi SBR 5850 should be made and poured over the joint of the retaining wall moments before pouring the remaining portion of the retaining wall. Other treatments include using a swell-able bar or a PVC water stopper, whichever is suitable and recommended by the project engineer.
Once the concrete of the raft and the retaining wall has been completed and the form work removed, it is essential to remove all the metal strips that have remained from the formwork de-shutter. The pot holes should be filled using a good ratio of cement and fine sand (1:3 suggested) with the addition of 1 KG of Ressi SBR 5850 for every 25 KG of cement used along with the sand (By Volume)
Once all the pot holes are covered over with the filling. 2 lavish coats of Ressicoat X-491 are to be applied over the retaining wall. Once the coating over the retaining wall has dried (48 Hours), the external retaining wall can be plastered over.
In the plaster material for the retaining wall, Silmix is to be added over. Silmix can be added as 1.5 Ltr per cement bag or can be applied by diluting it in water at a ratio of 1:100. The diluted water is to be used for the cement slurry (neru) and then the plaster material. The same diluted water also has to be used for the 3 day curing process.
Once the plaster is done, a chamfer is to be made between the angled edge of the raft and the retaining wall. Ressi SBR 5850 is to be added in the chamfer mix. The chamfer is to be coated over with Ressicoat X-491. Once the coating is completed sand filling can be done at the retaining wall.
In the entire process from digging up the ground and sand filling. Make sure the constant dewatering is performed.
The internal retaining wall and the raft floor also have to be coated over with Ressicoat X-491 in a similar fashion as it was done for the external side of the retaining wall. Once that is done, Silmix has to be added in the material for plastering.
For Underground Tanks;
After the coating works have been completed, it is essential to take flood test by filling up the underground water tank from the inside prior to plastering to make sure that there are no leakages.
After the flood test, prior to plastering Silmixhas to be added in the material for plastering. Make sure that the surface plaster for the inside of the underground tank is of a smooth nature.
The application of Ressicoat X-491 can also be done over the plastered surface if the plaster has already been done before hand. It is essential to make sure that the plastered surface is solid and crack free prior to the coating of Ressicoat X-491.
